Your Wedding Day

Your Wedding Day

One of the questions I'm asked most often as a wedding photographer is, "What actually happens when you're photographing our wedding day?"

Every wedding is unique, but there are a few key parts of the day that I always focus on. My approach is relaxed, natural, and storytelling led, allowing you to enjoy your wedding while I capture the genuine moments, emotions, and memories that make it so special.

Along the way, I've also included a few tips to help you get the most from each part of your day.

Wedding Preparations

The wedding morning is where the excitement begins. From the final touches of hair and makeup to getting dressed and sharing those special moments with family and friends, there's so much emotion to capture.

One of my biggest tips is to allow yourself more time than you think you'll need. I always recommend aiming to be fully ready around an hour before your ceremony. This keeps the morning feeling relaxed, allows for any last-minute adjustments, and gives us time to capture those beautiful natural moments before the celebrations begin.

The Ceremony

During your ceremony, my role is simple: observe and capture. This is one part of the day where there is absolutely no direction from me. I'm there quietly documenting the real moments as they happen, the nervous smiles, happy tears, proud looks from family members, and of course the moment you finally say "I do."

My goal is to be as unobtrusive as possible while capturing all the emotion and atmosphere of the ceremony. And yes, I occasionally find myself trying not to cry behind the camera too!

Detail Shots

Your wedding day is made up of so much more than the big moments. From your dress and shoes to your flowers, stationery, rings, table styling, favours, and carefully chosen décor, you've likely spent months planning every little detail. These are the touches that make your wedding uniquely yours, and capturing them is an important part of telling the complete story of your day.

As a wedding photographer, part of my job is noticing the things that others might overlook. I'll take time throughout the day to photograph the details you've thoughtfully chosen, preserving them in a way that allows you to look back and remember not just how your wedding felt, but how beautifully it all came together.

These images help tell the full story of your celebration and often become some of the most treasured photographs when looking back through your wedding gallery years later. If there are any special items that are particularly meaningful to you — perhaps a family heirloom, handwritten vows, sentimental jewellery, or a personal touch you've incorporated into your day — just let me know and I'll make sure they're captured beautifully.

Confetti & Celebration Shots

Confetti is one of my favourite parts of any wedding day. Whether it's confetti, bubbles, champagne sprays, smoke bombs, ribbon wands, or sparklers, these moments bring so much energy, fun, and movement to your photographs.

They create natural reactions, genuine laughter, and some of the most joyful images of the day. Whenever possible, I like to organise these straight after the ceremony while all your guests are together and the excitement is at its highest.

Family & Group Photographs

Group photographs are an important part of many weddings and often become treasured family memories for years to come.

I like to keep these organised, efficient, and stress-free. We usually complete them straight after the confetti photos while everyone is already gathered together. This means your guests can then relax, enjoy the drinks reception, and focus on celebrating without worrying about being needed later.

Before your wedding, I'll help you create a simple list of any important family combinations you'd like captured to ensure nobody is missed.

Couple Portraits

This is my favourite part of the day. For a short while, I get to steal you away from the celebrations and give you a chance to simply be together. It's often one of the only quiet moments you'll have all day.

Don't worry — this isn't about stiff posing or spending hours away from your guests. My approach is relaxed and natural, focusing on genuine connection, movement, laughter, and those quiet in-between moments that feel most like you.

Many couples tell me these portraits become one of their favourite memories from the entire wedding day because it gives them an opportunity to pause, breathe, and enjoy a few moments together as newlyweds. And if we're lucky enough to catch golden hour, even better.

Speeches & The Evening Celebration

The speeches are often one of the most emotional parts of the day. From laughter and tears to surprise stories and heartfelt moments, there is always so much happening. I love capturing not only the person speaking but also the reactions around the room — they're often where the magic happens.

Then comes the evening celebration. Whether it's your first dance, a packed dance floor, live music, or guests singing along at the top of their lungs, the evening is all about celebration. I love getting right into the middle of the action and documenting the energy, atmosphere, and pure joy of everyone having an amazing time. Some of the most fun and memorable photographs of the entire day happen once the party starts.
