Capturing the moments when the whole family comes together

Getting the whole family together is something worth celebrating. Whether you’re planning a big birthday, a special anniversary, a milestone celebration or a rare weekend when everyone can finally be in the same place, professional family photography is a wonderful way to preserve those memories.

As a family photographer based in Disley, on the edge of the Peak District, I love capturing relaxed, natural photographs of families celebrating together across Manchester, Stockport, Cheshire and the surrounding areas.

These sessions aren’t just about one formal group photograph. They’re about documenting the people, personalities and relationships that make your family special, including the beloved pets who are very much part of the family too.

Family photography for birthdays, anniversaries and special occasions

A family celebration often brings together people who don’t get to see each other as often as they’d like. Grandparents, siblings, cousins, children, partners and friends may all be travelling from different places, making the occasion even more meaningful.

A photography session gives you the chance to capture:

• Grandparents with their grandchildren
• Brothers, sisters and cousins together
• Children playing and interacting naturally

I’ll gently guide you when needed, but I won’t expect everyone to stand stiffly and smile at the camera for the entire session. The best photographs often happen in between the planned moments, when people are laughing, chatting, walking, hugging or simply enjoying being together.

Family celebration photography in Manchester city centre

Manchester city centre can be a fantastic setting for a family celebration photography session, particularly if you’re staying in a hotel or gathering for a special weekend.

You might be celebrating in a city centre hotel, meeting for a birthday meal or bringing everyone together for an anniversary weekend. We can use the hotel surroundings, nearby streets, architecture and beautiful pockets of green space to create a collection of photographs that feels relaxed and personal.

Manchester offers plenty of opportunities for a mixture of group photographs, family portraits and natural documentary-style images, whether you prefer an urban setting or something a little quieter.

Family photography in Stockport and the Heatons

For families based in Stockport, Heaton Moor, Heaton Chapel, Bramhall, Cheadle and the surrounding areas, there are lots of lovely options for family celebration photography.

A family home can be particularly meaningful, especially if you’re gathering there for a birthday or anniversary. It’s also a great option for families with younger children, older relatives or pets who may feel more comfortable in familiar surroundings.

Venues such as Village Point in Heaton Moor can also provide a lovely setting for a special family gathering, giving you the opportunity to capture both the celebration itself and the people who have come together to enjoy it.

Family celebration photography in Cheshire and the Peak District

If your family is travelling to Cheshire or the Peak District for a special occasion, I would love to help you capture the memories while everyone is together.

An Airbnb or holiday cottage in the Peak District can make a beautiful and relaxed location for family photographs. We can use the surrounding countryside, gardens, woodland, village streets or nearby walking routes to create natural images full of personality and connection.

This can work particularly well for milestone birthdays, family reunions, anniversaries and multi-generational weekends away.

I’m based in Disley and regularly photograph families across Cheshire, including areas around Wilmslow, Alderley Edge, Macclesfield, Poynton and surrounding villages, as well as locations throughout the Peak District.

Including your family pets

Pets are part of the family, so of course they can be included in your photographs too. Whether that means your dog joining the family walk, your cat making an appearance at home or simply capturing the bond between your children and their favourite four-legged friend, I’m always happy to include them where possible.

The aim is to create photographs that reflect your real family life, pets, personalities, laughter and all.

A relaxed and natural approach to family photography

I know that organising a large family photograph can sometimes feel a little daunting, particularly when you have different ages, personalities and energy levels to consider.

My approach is relaxed, friendly and unobtrusive. I’ll help organise the larger group photographs, then allow time for smaller combinations and natural moments to unfold.

There’s no pressure for everyone to behave perfectly, and no need for matching outfits or complicated posing. I want you to enjoy your time together while I capture photographs that feel genuine and full of life.
