Professional Team Headshots Don’t Have to Be Time-Consuming or Expensive
There’s a common assumption that organising professional headshots
for your team is a big, disruptive task. Something that takes
hours out of the working day, involves studio hire, and comes with
a hefty price tag. It’s an understandable belief — but it’s no
longer an accurate one.
The assumption: professional headshots are a hassle
For a long time, professional photography meant travelling to a
studio, working to a rigid setup, and asking people to step away
from their day for far longer than felt comfortable. For many
teams, that experience felt awkward, rushed, or overly formal.
Because of this, headshots often slip down the priority list.
They’re seen as something to deal with “later”, when there’s more
time, more budget, or less disruption. What that often leads to
is:
• outdated team photos that no longer reflect the business.
• inconsistent imagery across websites and LinkedIn profiles.
• images that don’t quite feel like the people behind the
business.
Situations I see regularly:
• A professional business where their team headshots were
taken over a decade ago, no longer reflecting the current team.
• A growing marketing or PR agency where everyone’s LinkedIn
photo looks different, unpolished, or mismatched, often photos on
holiday or nights out.
• A business that keeps saying “we’ll sort photos later,”
because it feels like too much disruption for too little return.
Why this assumption doesn’t hold up anymore
The idea that professional headshots have to be disruptive or
expensive is rooted in how photography used to work — not how it
works now. I work with businesses across Manchester and Stockport
using a portable studio setup that I bring directly to your office
or chosen location. I can be set up in under half an hour, and the
session fits naturally around the working day. Depending on what
suits your business best, we can:
• use a simple light or dark backdrop for clean, professional
portraits (often ideal for solicitors and corporate teams), or
• photograph people within your office, communal spaces, or
outside, which can feel more relaxed and natural for marketing,
PR, or creative teams.
I can photograph up to five team members in an hour, working
efficiently while still giving each person time and attention.
Just as importantly, I focus on how people feel during the
session. Many people tell me they’re uncomfortable in front of the
camera. My role is to create a calm, supportive environment so
that everyone leaves with at least a few photographs they
genuinely feel comfortable using. When this older belief is set
aside, businesses gain imagery that feels:
• current.
• consistent.
• and reflective of the people behind the brand.
A more relaxed way to think about team headshots
The simplest shift is this:professional headshots don’t need to
interrupt your working day — they can fit around it.
When photography happens in a familiar environment, people tend to
relax more quickly. There’s no rushing across town, no unfamiliar
studio space, and no pressure to “perform”.
What follows is a smoother experience and images that feel
natural, professional, and approachable — the kind of photographs
that work well across websites, LinkedIn, and marketing materials
without feeling forced.
Why this approach is becoming the norm
Businesses are increasingly looking for solutions that are:
• efficient.
• flexible.
• people-focused.
On-location photography and portable studio setups make it
possible to update team imagery without overcomplicating the
process. It’s a quieter, more considered way of working — and one
that suits modern businesses far better.
The result is professional photography that feels less like a
production, and more like a natural part of how your business
presents itself.
If your team photos no longer reflect who you are as a business,
I’d be happy to help. I work with corporate teams across
Manchester and Stockport, bringing a portable studio directly to
your workplace for a calm, efficient, and relaxed experience.
